Unsightly Properties

What is an unsightly property?

An unsightly property refers to any property with dilapidated buildings, derelict vehicles and litter located on the property that is visible to the public.

Concerned residents can call the Department of Housing, Land and Communities to file a complaint. A department representative will inspect the site to decide if the Unsightly Property Act is violated.

If the property is considered unsightly under the Unsightly Property Act, the Department can request the property owner take steps to improve the property’s condition. If the Department’s direction is not followed, further enforcement steps can be taken, including the issue of a clean-up order.
